Melatonin Dosage: Remove Sleeping Disorders

To restore the pattern of natural sleep melatonin dosage are the most helpful. But you must not take excess of melatonin and for a long time. Melatonin should be taken for short period of time.

Melatonin is a natural hormone that grows in human body to regulate the circadian rhythm (sleep wake cycle). It also known named the darkness hormone of human body. Melatonin is released from the pineal gland of human brain in dark. In light the activity of melatonin is suppressed in the nervous system. As our age increases the production of melatonin become slow. As a result jet lag can cause significant loss of sleep for human.

They can increase the amount gradually if necessary. You can also take pill. Pills are available in doses from 1 mg to 3 mg. From the studies of MIT it has been found that to facilitate sleep in melatonin there are 3 to 10 times amount needed.

The EMA has approved 2 mg circa din for 55 or over aged patients for a short term treatment of 13 or more weeks. During menopause, women who are suffering from loss of sleep because of hormonal changes may use cream. The cream can be used for a longer period of time.  You can get melatonin in the form of capsules, liquid, creams, tablets etc. It is also available as a prescript drug with a trade name circa din.

Melatonin is very effective in case of sleep disturbance. But the response of the people varies and they require different dosages for desired result. For the healthy people, low melatonin dose can cause various side effects if they take it for a long period of time such as for more than three months. People also experiences unwanted side effects such as nausea, headache, irritability, grogginess, hormone fluctuations, nightmares or vivid dreams, reduced blood flow if they take dose of 3 mg or more per day. Drowsiness is also caused by melatonin. If you take melatonin then you must not drive or operate any machinery.

Children, teenagers, lactating or pregnant women should not use melatonin. Melatonin should be avoided by those people who have following problems:

  • Auto immune diseases such as Lupus, Hashimoto’s thyroids, Rheumatoid arthritis, Graves etc.
  • Diabetes
  • Taking MAO inhibitor (depression)
  • Epilepsy
  • Lymphoma and leukemia.

People who are suffering form of the above conditions should consult an expert physician before taking melatonin dosage. If you have sleep disorder with stress then you should take melatonin before 30 or 60 minutes before sleep.

You will get melatonin without any prescription everywhere in the USA and Canada. But, in other countries you need prescription if you want to take melatonin. If you are going to take melatonin then be sure that it is good for your health or not without any side effects.
